What is the average SAT Score?

The SAT was designed so that the 50% of students score would above a 500 on each section. Thus, an average score is typically 500 verbal, 500 Math, and 500 Writing (1500 overall). Below is a percentile breakdown for the 2006 SAT, and you can see that the 48 percentile is right at a 1500.  While it is tempting to look at the percentiles, make sure and check out the scores that the schools you are interested require. This is the only real indicator of the scores you will need, and should be aiming for.
