Description:

Power questions test your knowledge of three power rules used with exponents.

Approach:

Memorize the these three rules and apply them as needed:

When multiplying add the exponents
When dividing subtract the exponents
When a power is raised to a power, multiply the exponents.

1) Powers (MADS)

When multiplying or dividing variables with powers remember the acronym MADS.

When multiplying common bases, add the powers:
x² * x³ = x⁵
When dividing common bases, subtract the powers:
x⁵ ⁄ x² = x³
When a power is raised to a power multiply the powers:
(x²)³ = x⁶

2) Practice:

x² * x⁵ = ?
x² ⁄ x⁷ = ?
(x^¹⁄₃)³ =?
