Senior Director & Head Statistician Mac Wetherbee graduated from Tulane University, cum laude, with a B.A. in Political Science and Economics. He has a Ph.D. in Applied Statistics from the University of Denver as well as Master’s degrees from the University of Denver and the University of Colorado Boulder.

Mac has been at Mindfish since 2019. He is one of Mindfish’s most experienced and accomplished tutors. He has helped countless students improve their standardized test scores.

In addition to his stellar work as a tutor, Mac oversees the training of new Mindfish tutors; ongoing professional development for Mindfish instructors; the development of Mindfish materials, curricula, and educational resources; and all of Mindfish’s statistical analyses.

Mac took a sabbatical from Mindfish for the 2025 Major League Baseball season, when he worked as a Senior Analyst in the Baseball Analytics department for the Boston Red Sox. During that time, he helped the Red Sox build new statistical models and projections systems to project players’ future valuations and to decide which high school and college players to draft.

In his PhD dissertation, Mac developed an innovative statistical model to measure and quantify the abilities of professional golfers. Mac also regularly serves as the statistician for academic research projects. His research has been published by the Alliance for Research on Regional Colleges, by Third Way, and in Research in Higher Education. He is currently working on a grant-funded project for the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education.

In his free time, Mac likes to golf, watch baseball, read, hang out with his dogs, and research his next real estate investment.
