Welcome to Mindfish, the preferred education center for AP Physics test prep and tutoring with some of Colorado’s most talented experts. As tutors, we are coaches and mentors and are thus in a position to model success to our students and positively impact their lives during crucial periods of development. To that end, every Mindfish tutor has significant teaching experiencing, having graduated from top universities like MIT, Stanford, Oxford, and Cornell, and collaborates to deliver an effective AP Physics prep strategy to exceed goals.
Mindfish understands that a one-size-fits-all teaching method does not work with the AP Physics exam tutoring. The most common score on the AP Physics test is a 3. Meeting this benchmark will demonstrate to college admission officers that your student has a solid grasp of the subject matter. But most students living near Denver and Boulder come to Mindfish intending to earn a 5 on the AP Physics exam.
Devoting time to addressing factors like test anxiety, confidence issues, and poor time management allows us to devise an action plan that better serves your child. After analyzing individual needs, the Mindfish will devise a tailored plan that addresses your student’s strengths and weaknesses. Come register for quality AP Physics test prep at any of our four office locations.
What are the Different AP Physics Exams Offered?
During the 2014 academic year, the College Board replaced AP Physics B with AP Physics 1 and AP Physics 2. This change enables students to delve deeper into key physics concepts as they develop the reasoning and inquiry skills necessary to think like scientists. These two courses, along with AP Physics C: Mechanics and AP Physics C: Electricity & Magnetism, make up the various Advanced Placement exams available for students to take.
What is the format for the AP Physics 1 Exam?
The AP Physics 1 exam focuses on algebra-based physics found in first-semester college courses. During this exam, students will encounter fundamental concepts such as Newtonian mechanics, gravity, momentum, and energy. Lasting approximately 3 hours, the AP Physics 1 exam contains a multiple-choice section and a free-response section.
Making up 50% of your total score, the multiple-choice section has 50 questions and lasts 90 minutes. Meanwhile, the free-response section consists of 3 short-answer questions, 1 experimental design question, and 1 quantitative/qualitative translation question. This section makes up the other 50% of your total score, and also lasts 90 minutes.
What is the format for the AP Physics 2 Exam?
The AP Physics 2 exam covers fluid statics and dynamics, thermodynamics with kinetic theory, PV diagrams and probability, electrostatics, electrical circuits with capacitors, magnetic fields, electromagnetism, physical and geometric optics, and nuclear physics. Mirroring the AP Physics 1 exam, AP Physics 2 has a multiple-choice section and free-response section, with both making up 50% of your total score.
The multiple-choice section has 50 questions and lasts 90 minutes. Also lasting 90 minutes, the free-response section consists of 2 short-answer questions, 1 experimental design question, and 1 quantitative/qualitative translation question.
What is the format for the AP Physics C: Mechanics Exam?
The AP Physics C: Mechanics exam applies both differential and integral calculus to advanced concepts, which includes kinematics, Newton’s laws of motion, systems of particles and linear momentum, circular motion and rotation, oscillations, and gravitation
Offered directly before the AP Physics C: Electricity and Magnetism exam, like the two preceding AP Physics exams, students must complete a multiple-choice section and a free-response section. Both sections make up 50% of your total score and last 45 minutes each. The multiple-choice section consists of 35 questions, and the free-response section has 3 short-answer questions.
What is the format for the AP Physics C: Electricity & Magnetism Exam?
The AP Physics C: Electricity and Magnetism is the highest AP Physics exam proctored, taken immediately after the AP Physics C: Mechanics exam. Please note that students are not required to take both exams. The AP Physics C: Electricity and Magnetism exam focuses on advanced concepts such as electrostatics, conductors, capacitors, and dielectrics, electric circuits, magnetic fields, and electromagnetism while using differential and integral calculus.
Following the AP Physics C exam’s format, students must complete a multiple-choice and free-response section. Both sections make up 50% of your total score and last 45 minutes each. The multiple-choice section contains 35 questions, and the free-response section has 3 short-answer questions.
The Preferred Center for AP Physics Prep in Denver & Boulder
