Marguerite Finnegan grew up in Michigan and, after earning a near-perfect score on the SAT, completed a B.A. in Arts and Humanities from Michigan State University. After graduation, she discovered a passion for teaching, leading her to earn her teaching license in secondary math. Over the last 15 years, she has taught middle- and high-school math in public schools, tutored online and in classrooms, and led the curriculum department of a major test-prep tutoring company.
Marguerite was diagnosed with ADHD at the age of 31, when she began a project-based job and realized that her lifelong coping mechanisms and masking were no longer sufficient if she wanted to succeed in this role. She later discovered she is on the autism spectrum as well. She needed to adjust her behavior and sought support. As such, she brings a unique perspective to her executive functioning coaching with neurodivergent students – she has recent experience with discovering her limitations and leveraging her strengths to overcome them, and is dedicated to helping her students do the same.
Marguerite’s own struggles with math during her student years inform her empathetic approach to supporting her more math-averse students today. She’s fascinated by the intersection of art, literature, and math, and strives to help students not only grasp mathematical concepts but also uncover the beauty in problem-solving. In her free time, Marguerite enjoys reading, drawing, building things, and playing video games.
