ISEE, SSAT, HSPT, & PSAT 8/9 Test Prep Tutoring

Helping students complete their exams with confidence

Expert Prep for Secondary School Admissions

Our mission is to empower students, nurturing their intellectual growth and academic excellence in secondary school education. We understand that achieving practical goals such as high test scores, stellar grades, and successful secondary school admissions is essential. However, our approach extends beyond these objectives. We aim to develop confident, hardworking, and intellectually curious individuals who embrace the academic journey as a fulfilling and balanced experience. As experienced tutors, we serve as mentors, guiding students towards success during their secondary school years.

Master the ISEE, SSAT, HSPT, & PSAT 8/9 with our Tutoring Programs

The Independent School Entrance Exam (ISEE), Secondary School Admissions Test (SSAT), High School Placement Test (HSPT), and PSAT 8/9 are critical assessments for securing admission to prestigious secondary schools. Our tutoring programs empower students to excel on these exams and navigate the admission process with confidence.

ISEE

The ISEE offers four test levels, each tailored to specific grade levels. It includes sections on Verbal Reasoning, Quantitative Reasoning, Reading Comprehension, and Mathematics Achievement. Additionally, an unscored essay is sent directly to the applied schools. Most test dates occur in the fall and early winter, making early preparation crucial.

SSAT

The SSAT is used for admission to private secondary schools and consists of three test levels. It assesses Quantitative, Reading Comprehension, and Verbal Reasoning skills, along with an unscored essay sent to the chosen schools. The test is offered once a month from October through April, necessitating early preparation.

HSPT

Administered locally by private (typically Catholic) high schools, the HSPT is designed for 8th-grade students. It includes five multiple-choice sections: Verbal Skills, Quantitative Skills, Reading, Mathematics, and Language Skills, with optional sections on religion or science. The HSPT is typically offered in December, requiring students to begin their preparation early.

PSAT 8/9

Occasionally used for private high school admissions, the PSAT 8/9 is a shorter and simplified version of the SAT. While similar to the PSAT 10 or PSAT NMSQT, it is typically taken earlier in a student’s educational journey.

Curate Your Test Prep

Our 1-on-1 test prep tutoring is designed to provide the highest level of personalized support. Starting at $150/hour, we offer discounts for packages of 15 hours or more, tailored to various score improvement goals:

Our Approach

Our approach begins with an initial practice test and review session. Students will take a practice test for their chosen private school entrance exams (ISEE, SSAT, HSPT, or PSAT 8/9). Following the practice test(s), we arrange a 45-minute, in-depth review meeting with parents and one of Mindfish’s directors. During this consultation, our director will meticulously analyze the practice test results, understand the student’s goals and needs, and formulate a tailored test prep plan. The student will then be connected with one of our expert tutors.
