About the LSAT

The Law School Admission Test, or LSAT, plays a critical role in the admissions process for law schools, especially top-ranking schools. The test is designed to assess key skills needed for success in law school, such as critical reading, analytical reasoning, logical reasoning, and persuasive writing.

The test is administered in two parts. The first component is a digital five-section, multiple-choice exam that the prospective law student takes at a variety of test centers around the world. Each section of the test is 35 minutes long. Four of the five sections contribute to a student’s score and consist of one reading comprehension, one analytical reasoning (also called logic games), and two logical reasoning sections. All questions are scored equally, and a student’s raw score is converted into a scaled score between 120 and 180. The second component is a written essay that the student takes online using secure proctoring software that can be installed on their own computer.
